Secretary for the Civil Service ( Mr Clement Cheung ,JP ) visits Sham Shui Po District

 The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, visited Sham Shui Po District today (January 25) to learn about the latest developments in the district and to meet with members of the Sham Shui Po District Council.

     Accompanied by the Chairman of Sham Shui Po District Council, Mr Ambrose Cheung; the Vice Chairman, Mr Chan Wai-ming; and District Officer (Sham Shui Po), Mr Benjamin Mok, Mr Cheung first toured the Caritas Cheng Shing Fung District Elderly Centre (Sham Shui Po) and met with elderly people attending activities there to learn more about their daily life. The Centre is committed to providing senior citizens with community support services and encouraging them to lead an active community life.

     Mr Cheung then met with the Chairman, Vice Chairman and other members of Sham Shui Po District Council to get a picture of the overall development of the district. He also discussed and exchanged views with members on various district issues of concern.

     Later, Mr Cheung visited the HOME Centre of the New Home Association and was briefed on the Centre's measures to help ethnic minorities integrate into the community. With subvention from the Home Affairs Department, the Centre helps ethnic minorities adapt to life in Hong Kong, mainly by providing courses in language and local culture, integration programmes and counselling services.

     Before concluding his visit, Mr Cheung proceeded to the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association Mei Ho House Youth Hostel for an exchange session with members of the Sham Shui Po District Leadership Service Corps. The young members told Mr Cheung about how they had equipped themselves for the future and broadened their horizons by participating in the Service Corps. Founded by Sham Shui Po District Office in 2014, the Service Corps now has over 450 members. The Service Corps organises various leadership training programmes and volunteer services to encourage members to participate in community services and provide assistance to those in need.
