Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah visited the HOME Support Service Centre for Ethnic Minorities in Yau Ma Tei today.

He participated in a children's story-telling activity and a parent-child Cantonese lesson.

He spoke with students of an English course for adults, and saw a handicrafts workshop.

He was then briefed on the centre’s facilities, including the Harmonious Multi-cultural Mobile Service Centre, and met ethnic-minority youths.

"The Special Administrative Region Government has all along been caring about the needs of ethnic minorities, enhancing their communication skills in Chinese and English and facilitating their early integration into the community," he said.

The centre is funded by the Home Affairs Department and operated by the New Home Association.

The department has commissioned non-profit-making organisations to operate six support service centres and two sub-centres to help ethnic minorities integrate with the local community.
